The same carrier has nailed down pricing at $160 on a three-year contract for a 16GB version and $210 for a 32GB model. Other carriers like Bell and Rogers are still a bit commitment-phobic, although that earlier Best Buy tip makes us think they'll fall into line before long.

Update: Samsung's own release has swung our way, and it's providing a slew of details that should closely relate to the US launch. As expected, that's a Snapdragon S4 inside, although we now know that the 2GB of RAM of the NTT DoCoMo version will at least be making its way to Canada as well. The LTE version for Bell, Rogers, Telus and a handful of regional carriers is known as the SGH-i747, while the fabled SGH-T999 stops at 42Mbps HSPA+ and is the edition that Mobilicity, Wind and Videotron will get, since it supports 1,700MHz 3G. McGill University student plan provides healthcare to rural areas with Windows Phone and Win 8

Those of us living in metropolitan areas don't think twice about our ease of access to medical care, but those in rural areas don't enjoy such easy access to a doctor. Abhijeed Kalyan and Shravan Narayan from McGill University in Canada are aware of this problem, and came up with a way for doctors to diagnose and treat patients from afar. Called Project Neem, it's got a hub and spoke organizational structure that puts a healthcare worker in every village and leverages the power of Windows Phone to connect them with medical staff in distant cities.

Participating healthcare workers are given basic medical training and a handheld loaded up with a custom app that identifies patients by scanning their national ID card and stores their pertinent medical info -- from temperature and blood pressure readings to a variety of symptoms. The app has a virtual human body on board that lets users tap parts of the anatomy to bring up a series of symptoms that can be selected to provide treating physicians with the info they need. That information is stored in the cloud and accessed by doctors through a Windows 8 app, who then can relay appropriate treatments to the local healthcare worker. Now all we need is someone to make a real-world tricorder, and we'll truly be able to bring medical care to the masses, wherever they may be.

Advice for Newbies in Business Networking International (bni ...

For anyone considering joining BNI ?. or new to their business networking organization ? here?s some tips.

You know ?. nobody wants to know about your business if they don?t know you. At BNI or anywhere.

Just follow the BNI training to the letter and you should do fine. That?s the benefit of BNI over many other networks ? they have a system and a process and they measure it. Brilliant!

Since BNI is all about referrals, you must get to know each of the members and what their business is about. And vice versa.

It?s less about being ?friends? (although you may certainly make some in your group) than it is about thinking of the members as your ?sales team? ?. and you are on their ?sales teams? too.

What would you want to know about the people on your ?sales team?? What would you want them to know about you? And also about your business so they could refer you with confidence?

You?ll learn how to do that when you take your MSP training after you join.

Keep these in mind ??

- Practice your 60 second educational. Map out 50 weeks worth of lessons.

- Make sure each week you tell something new about what you do.

- Take your MSP as soon as possible.

Remember ??

1) The members are not your target audience. Do not try and sell them as clients.

2) Do not try and get them to become sales agents for you. They will get you referrals for people who need your product/service.

3) Get referrals for others. Remember ?.. ?Givers Gain?.

Not just in BNI, but in any situation when networking with others? it?s a good rule of thumb to make initial conversations about THEM. Asking what you can help them with (not for your business, for referring folks YOU know in your network to help them).

Again, no one in your BNI group should be seen as a potential client/customer. It?s at least 3-4 people deep from them, that you want to reach. You do this by building rapport. Doing a Dance Card (where you set up a coffee chat or lunch break with another member to get to know them) is a recommended way to achieve rapport with other chapter/group members and is practiced widely at the BNI meetings.

The interview has some great info on how to make it easy for network partners to be able to refer even a difficult-to-refer business.

Also remember this ?.. you are only allowed to miss a few meetings and then you are ousted from the group. This is not done to be cruel. It is to demonstrate to the members of the group that this organization is serious about business networking. It requires commitment. Also, the money that you spend to become a member of BNI is not refunded to you if you are ousted. Once again, BNI is about serious business networking.

Their mantra is the ?Givers Gain?, and if that is in the forefront of your thought process, you will succeed. Actually, that goes for everything in life, not just BNI!

Iran is offered new plans to ease nuclear concerns

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iran traded proposals with six world powers, including the United States, Wednesday in a new round of talks aimed at persuading Tehran to curb its nuclear program and ease concerns it wants to make atomic weapons. But divisions over sanctions complicated the discussions.

The Baghdad talks could offer a test of how much the U.S. and its allies are willing to bend on demands for Iran to halt all uranium enrichment and instead concentrate on just stopping the highest-grade production.

No breakthrough accords were expected in the Iraqi capital, suggesting that all sides are still shaping their strategies and the negotiation process is likely to be long and complex. That could allow U.S. and European allies to significantly tone down threats of military action. But it would likely bring objections from Israel, which claims that Iran is only trying to buy time to keep its nuclear fuel labs in full operation.

The meetings opened with the so-called 5+1 group ? the permanent U.N. Security Council members, the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France, plus Germany ? putting forward a proposal apparently aimed at reining in Iran's highest-level uranium enrichment. Many world leaders fear the uranium, enriched to 20 percent, could be quickly turned into warhead-grade material. Other details of the plan were not immediately disclosed.

"We hope the package that we put on the table is attractive to them so they will react positively," Mike Mann, spokesman for the head of the European Union delegation that is leading the talks, told reporters. "It's up to them to react."

Hours later, Iran made its move by offering a counterproposal that includes what one member of its negotiating team called "nuclear and non-nuclear issues." The official would not discuss details of the plan, but said it would be discussed in private meetings with diplomats from the European Union and China, an Iranian ally.

The Iranian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive talks, predicted negotiations would continue Thursday.

Earlier, Iranian envoys set their goal for the Baghdad talks: Seeking agreements to lessen, or at least delay, sanctions that have targeted Iran's critical oil exports and cut off the country from lucrative European markets.

Mann would not discuss whether the 20 percent level enrichment represented a red line that could again scuttle the negotiations, which had only restarted last month after collapsing in early 2011.

The high-enriched uranium is far above the level needed for energy-producing reactors, but is used in medical research. Iran claims its nuclear program is only for electricity and medical applications.

Tehran has tentatively agreed to allow U.N. inspectors to restart probes into a military base with suspected links to nuclear arms-related tests. Mann expressed cautious optimism about the still-unsigned deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency, but said it would have little bearing on Wednesday's talks.

Mann also suggested that any rollback in sanctions was unlikely in the Baghdad talks. He said some of the most painful sanctions ? including a European Union ban on Iranian oil imports beginning July 1 ? are a "matter of the law and they will come into force when they come into force."

The Obama administration has been vague about its immediate goals, with officials saying the talks will gauge Iran's seriousness and explore elements of a possible agreement. A Western diplomat in Baghdad said the talks will focus on "confidence-building measures" that Iran's nuclear program is only being used for peaceful purposes.

Washington has shown little willingness to bargain, despite the tentative IAEA agreement to inspect the Parchin military complex southeast of Tehran. That's where the U.N. believes Iran ran explosive tests in 2003 needed to set off a nuclear charge. Tehran says Parchin is not a nuclear site.

In an op-ed piece in Wednesday's editions of the Wall Street Journal, Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, and Independent Joe Lieberman, urged taking a hard line against Iran and "to leave no doubt that the window for diplomacy is closing."

"The Iranian regime's long record of deceit and defiance should make us extremely cautious about its willingness to engage in good-faith diplomacy," the senators wrote. "The U.S. must be prepared, if necessary, to use military force to stop Iran from getting a nuclear-weapons capability."

Iran's top officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have repeatedly said that Iran does not seek nuclear arms and have called such weapons against Islamic principles.

During a visit to western Iran on Wednesday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad evoked Khamenei's belief that "production and use of weapons of mass destruction is forbidden" by Islam.

"There is no room for these weapons in Iran's defense doctrine," he said at a gathering to commemorate victims of Iraqi chemical weapons during the 1980-88 war with Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Iran is sticking to its right to enrich uranium as a signatory of U.N. nuclear treaties. The West and others fear the level of enrichment Iran is doing can be turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium.

At the heart of the debate are sanctions the West has placed on Iran to force it to the bargaining table ? particularly on an EU decision to cut all crude oil imports from Iran that are set to take effect July 1. The 27-nation EU accounts for just 18 percent of Iran's total oil exports.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate backed proposals for further sanctions on Iran, including requiring companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges to disclose any Iran-related business. U.S. and European measures already have targeted Iran's oil exports ? its chief revenue source ? and effectively blocked the country from international banking networks.

Oil fell to a seven-month low near $91 a barrel Wednesday on hopes of progress in the talks.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) ? More than a third of the malaria-fighting drugs tested over the past decade in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa were either fake or bad quality, seriously undermining efforts to fight the disease, a study said Tuesday.

With up to 1 million people ? mostly children in Africa ? already dying every year from malaria, bogus drugs and those containing the wrong chemical makeup could upend a decade of progress fighting the mosquito-transmitted disease, the U.S.-funded review said.

International efforts to combat drug counterfeiting ? much of it believed to take place in China ? are urgently needed.

Fake drugs with no malaria-fighting agents can lead to deaths when patients rely on them, and those containing some active ingredients ? but not enough to fully kill all parasites ? are also problematic because they promote resistance that can eventually outsmart medicines and render them useless.

Alarm bells have sounded in recent years over signs of increasing resistance in western Cambodia on Thailand's border with Myanmar among artemisinin-based drugs, the only effective medicine now widely used to cure the disease.

Studies show the drugs are taking longer to work there, and experts fear the emerging resistance could eventually spread to Africa as has occurred previously with other malaria treatments that now are worthless against the disease.

If artemisinin-based drugs stop working, there is no good replacement and many people would ultimately die. Currently, malaria kills an estimated 2,000 children every day in Africa. Some 3.3 billion people worldwide are at risk of getting infected.

"We feel a sense of emergency considering the impact these medicines can have," lead author Gaurvika Nayyar, of the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, said in an email.

The study says more labs are needed worldwide to test for fake drugs ? only three out of 47 malaria-plagued countries in Africa are equipped to do so. Nayyar also calls for counterfeiters to be brought to justice, including the creation of a universal way to crack down on those involved in the cross-border trade. Currently, laws only exist within individual countries.

"The economic incentives for criminals of drug falsification surpass the risks involved in their production and sale," the authors wrote in the article published in the Lancet Infectious Diseases journal.

"Production and distribution of counterfeit antimalarial drugs should be prosecuted as crimes against humanity," they added.

The review analyzes 27 published and unpublished studies dating back to 1999 that look at poor-quality and counterfeit malaria-fighting drugs.

In Southeast Asia, various anti-malaria drugs were analyzed from seven countries from 1999 to 2010. Of 1,437 samples, 35 percent contained the wrong chemical makeup; nearly half of 919 samples were incorrectly packaged; and 36 percent of 1,260 samples were fake.

In Africa, 35 percent of 2,297 samples collected from 21 countries had the wrong amount of chemicals; 36 percent of 77 failed packaging testing, and 20 percent of 389 drugs were fake.

The authors said many cases go unreported. They also point to other issues driving the problem, such as patients buying drugs over the country without prescriptions and self-medicating along with using drugs that are expired or degraded through improper storage.

Earlier studies found indications that some counterfeits were made in China and smuggled into Southeast Asia, but more research is needed to understand the extent and complexities of the problem.

"Importantly, no large randomized studies of drug quality have been done in either China or India," wrote Michael Seear, of British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver, in an accompanying commentary. "Because roughly a third of the world's population lives in these countries, and they are probably the source of many counterfeit drugs, global estimates should be seriously examined."
