Asia Global Energy India: WPS 2000

http://www.asiaglobalenergy.com/mwp.html Asia Global Energy has obtained the Asian license to a large scale waste remediation technology that produces valuable electricity and destroys over 1000 tons per day of Municipal Solid Waste. This Waste to Energy Technology is under license and was originally developed in the 1980s under the Reagan administration as part of a joint venture between Ensco and the United States Military. The technology was utilized to destroy US stockpiles of biological and chemical weapons in an attempt to meet US/USSR treaty commitments. Over the last 25 years, this technology has successfully remediated 22 toxic waste sites in North America, including a PCB site near Smithville, Ontario. Since 2000, there has been three energy producing components developed from waste heat in the certified remediation of municipal, agricultural and toxic waste: electricity, hydrogen and fresh water. The company remains committed to reducing global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by converting municipal solid waste (MSW) to clean, reliable, renewable power, and by producing and trading carbon assets based on the flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol. Asia Global Energy is licensed to be a selling agent for this technology in India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Our agreement ensures a percentage of the large revenue resulting from the sale, setup and operation of this Waste to Energy technology. Has evolution given humans unique brain structures?

Feb. 22, 2013 ? Humans have at least two functional networks in their cerebral cortex not found in rhesus monkeys. This means that new brain networks were likely added in the course of evolution from primate ancestor to human.

These findings, based on an analysis of functional brain scans, were published in a study by neurophysiologist Wim Vanduffel (KU Leuven and Harvard Medical School) in collaboration with a team of Italian and American researchers.

Our ancestors evolutionarily split from those of rhesus monkeys about 25 million years ago. Since then, brain areas have been added, have disappeared or have changed in function. This raises the question, 'Has evolution given humans unique brain structures?'. Scientists have entertained the idea before but conclusive evidence was lacking. By combining different research methods, we now have a first piece of evidence that could prove that humans have unique cortical brain networks.

Professor Vanduffel explains: "We did functional brain scans in humans and rhesus monkeys at rest and while watching a movie to compare both the place and the function of cortical brain networks. Even at rest, the brain is very active. Different brain areas that are active simultaneously during rest form so-called 'resting state' networks. For the most part, these resting state networks in humans and monkeys are surprisingly similar, but we found two networks unique to humans and one unique network in the monkey."

"When watching a movie, the cortex processes an enormous amount of visual and auditory information. The human-specific resting state networks react to this stimulation in a totally different way than any part of the monkey brain. This means that they also have a different function than any of the resting state networks found in the monkey. In other words, brain structures that are unique in humans are anatomically absent in the monkey and there no other brain structures in the monkey that have an analogous function. Our unique brain areas are primarily located high at the back and at the front of the cortex and are probably related to specific human cognitive abilities, such as human-specific intelligence."

The study used fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scans to visualise brain activity. fMRI scans map functional activity in the brain by detecting changes in blood flow. The oxygen content and the amount of blood in a given brain area vary according to a particular task, thus allowing activity to be tracked.

Chicago bluesman Magic Slim dead at 75

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Guitarist Magic Slim, a mainstay of the Chicago blues scene who followed in the footsteps of such greats as Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, died on Thursday at age 75, his manager said.

Slim, the son of Mississippi sharecroppers, gave up the piano and turned to guitar after losing his right pinky finger in a cotton gin accident at age 13. He died at a Philadelphia hospital where he had been under treatment for various ailments, manager Marty Salzman said.

A heavy smoker who suffered from emphysema and heart problems, Slim was forced by illness to cut short a tour with his band, the Teardrops, in late January, Salzman said.

Born Morris Holt in Torrence, Mississippi, Slim grew up on a farm and made his first trip to Chicago in 1955, starting off as the bass player for a friend and mentor known as Magic Sam, who lent the younger musician his nickname.

Slim cut his first record in 1966 and became a Chicago blues fixture in his own right, developing a guitar style that blended a distinct vibrato with a slide-guitar-like sound formed with his bare fingers against the strings.

Known for playing with picks on both the thumb and index finger of his right hand - a somewhat unusual technique, according to Salzman - the guitarist was recognized as much for his powerful, gruff vocals as his musicianship.

With more than 30 albums to his credit, Slim also was known for an encyclopedic mastery of the blues, Salzman said.

"There's probably not another bluesman who had quite the repertoire that Slim had," he said.

While Slim lived in recent years with his family in Nebraska, "Chicago was always like home to him," his manager said.

Tech Leaders Create Most Lucrative Science Prize In History

We live in a world where we have beaten most diseases and already live longer than we should

Oh yeah... beaten most disease? Give me a fucking break. We certainly nailed some big viruses, but those aren't diseases.

Let me know when you figure out how to cure something as simple as Migraine headaches. How about depression, we have 'treatments' but certainly no cures, and those treatments are a crapshoot. Maybe this drug works... oh no, well lets try this one... Yeah it works, but your heartrate doubled...

The simple fact of the matter is that the current state of 'medicine' is that your options for actually beating a disease are:
1. Take a vaccine for the cause before you actually get the disease (if a vaccine exists)
2. Take antibiotics if it is bacterial in nature. Hope that the infection hasn't caused irreversable damage
3. Take a knife and cut it out.
4. Sew it back up.

Everything else is basically palliative care. We are just now beginning to se the barest glimpse of genetic treatments, and you are considering most diseases beaten and that people live too long?

I know misanthropy is hip on slashdot, but that doesn't make you right.

Kim Kardashian says she won't be quitting "Keeping Up" after season nine.

Despite reports to the contrary, fans will be able to keep up with?Kim Kardashian?for at least a few more years.

In a recent?DuJour?cover story, which features remarks from? The Hollywood Reporter's editorial director?Janice Min, Kardashian allegedly says that season nine of her hit E! reality show will be her last. The story indicates that Kardashian -- having signed on for the upcoming eighth and ninth seasons -- will not extend her contract beyond what she has already committed to. Multiple outlets picked up on the story, blasting headlines all over the Internet about Kardashian calling it quits on the hit franchise and with many suggesting that Kardashian?s beau,?Kanye West, is to blame.

?My boyfriend has taught me a lot about privacy,? she is quoted as saying. ?I?m ready to be a little less open about some things, like my relationships. I?m realizing everyone doesn?t need to know everything. I?m shifting my priorities.?

Kardashian now is disputing the reports, saying that the reality franchise remains her first priority but maintaining a noncommittal stance on what the future might bring.

?In the article, I was asked about continuing on with?'Keeping Up With the Kardashians,'?? she writes on her?official blog. ?As everyone knows, we are extremely proud of the show and all of us are staying on through at least season 10. The show remains to be my number 1 priority and it?s a big part of my life and I enjoy every moment of it.?

Photos from THR: I'm quitting the biz: 16 Hollywood retirements (and 'retirements')

She continues: ?I?m looking forward to the new season and beyond. The fact is that I have many goals that I still need to reach and accomplish and I (like so many of you) don?t know where my life will be in the next couple of years, but I?m looking forward to continuing this journey.?

Season eight of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians"?began filming this month and will premiere in June. According to her interview with?DuJour, "KUWTK"?will not include any explicit ?baby stuff,? relating to the child she is expecting with West, and might or might not include her beau.

?We haven?t really gotten that far yet,? says Kardashian.
