Every dog has a role in their home | The Social Silo

I added a new addition to my family last week and it got me thinking about the role of dogs in our lives.

First of all, my newest pal is an Australian Shepherd named Shiloh. Her new duties will include being a herd dog for the sheep and cattle but most of all a loyal companion.

Most dogs have roles to play. Some dogs are meant to work. The type of work depends on the owner and where they live. Some dogs are to guard the home and owners. Some dogs are to keep children safe.

Some dogs are used for work on the farm such as herding animals or protecting the animals from predators.

Other dogs are destined to be home bodies. What I mean is that they are the family dog and that in itself is a duty. Whether it is entertaining their owners or simply being available for a good pet on the head when someone is having a bad day.

I guess what I?m trying to get at is that like every home, every dog is different and every dog has a different job.

They do have one thing in common for us dog lovers. It doesn?t take long for one to melt your heart.

And in case you are wondering, she already figured out the loyal companion part!
