LOS ANGELES, March 13 (TheWrap.com) - David Cronenberg has joined the growing list of big-screen talents taking up small-screen projects.
"Naked Lunch" director Cronenberg is embarking on his first television venture, "Knifeman."
The series, based on the Wendy Moore novel, follows "the trials and triumphs of a radical, self-educated surgeon" who goes to "extraordinary and unorthodox lengths ... to uncover the secrets of the human body," according to Media Rights Capital, which is producing the series.
Cronenberg will direct the pilot episode of the series, and executive-produce the series. "Friday Night Lights" writer/producer Rolin Jones, who's writing the series, is also executive-producing, along with Sam Raimi, Josh Donen and Robert Zotnowsi. Renee Tab of Sentient Entertainment is co-executive producing.
Media Rights Capital also produces the Kevin Spacey-starring series "House of Cards," which will premiere on Netflix this year.
