Two Minneapolis law firms have been hired to handle legal issues for building the Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, the newly created organization that will build and manage the stadium, met Friday morning and selected Dorsey & Whitney as general counsel and Fabyanske, Westra, Hart & Thomson as legal counsel for stadium construction.
Michele Kelm-Helgen, chair of the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority and a former top aide to Gov. Mark Dayton, praised the selection:
"The unanimous recommendation of Dorsey and Fabyanske provides MSFA with top-tier law firms who have the necessary experience to ensure the stadium is completed on time and on budget."
At Dorsey, Jay Lindgren will serve as lead counsel on the project, overseeing legal aspects including financing, real estate, construction strategy, labor and employment, intellectual property and other issues.?
Mark Westra will serve as lead counsel from Fabyanske, Westra, Hart & Thomson, handling construction law? issues.
Previously, the MSFA hired Kimley-Horn and Associates to conduct environmental assessment work and Hammes Co. to serve as the owner?s representative during the stadium development process.
The authority is expected to name an architectural team in the coming weeks.
