Former Fayetteville resident Ashley Twichell wins gold at World University Games

Former Fayetteville-Manlius and Duke swimming star Ashley Twichell won a gold medal Wednesday in the 10-kilometer open water event at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

Twichell, 24, a 2007 F-M graduate who went on to become an All-American swimmer at Duke, won the distance event with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes - some 31 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
